HE sat out yesterday's training with an achilles injury, but impending fatherhood is the only thing likely to keep Hawks captain Mat Campbell from taking on the Gold Coast Blaze at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Campbell had planned to take part in the session, but the injury, which he picked up in last Friday's big win over West Sydney Razorbacks, forced him to seek physio treatment."He said it was still feeling a bit tight and he couldn't go today, but knowing Mat, I don't think that will stop him playing," Wollongong coach Eric Cooks said. While Campbell is desperate to line up against the Blaze, coached by former Hawks mentor Brendan Joyce, he has promised to be by wife Renee's side for the birth of their first child. It is due later this week."Hopefully everything goes to schedule and Mat's with us on Saturday, but we totally understand how he feels about wanting to be there for the birth and we'll let him make the decision," Cooks said.Campbell will become the Hawks' fourth father, joining team-mates Lindsay Tait, James Peters and Ben Castle.
